In 1930, the four Demeules Brothers, Heine, Rolla, Zez and Chuck, started a company with the express purpose of fabricating metal products for the construction industry. This company was named Standard Iron and Wire Works, Inc. The early years were a struggle, which is true of any business starting up. For the Demeules brothers, the founders of Standard Iron, the key to continued success has been change — the willingness to adapt their business in response to the changing needs and demands of the customer, the industry, and the times. This business philosophy carried over to the second generation in 1972 when Dave and Rusty, sons of Heine, took over. This was a significant time in the company’s history since it had been lead for over 40 years by the first generation. The business was due for a breath of new air, which is exactly what Dave and Rusty provided. They leveraged the business investing in new equipment and buildings during the 1970s, which positioned the company to attract new customers and significantly grow the business. In 1987, Dave chose to sell his ownership portion to Rusty. This was the first time that Standard Iron had one majority stockholder, which proved to be very advantageous. Through Rusty’s leadership, the company tripled in size and the company was nicely positioned for the third generation. Standard Iron continues to thrive under the leadership of the third generation of Demeules brothers—Rich, Joe and Bill. This third generation took over the leadership roles of the Corporation in 1996 and continue to operate the business under the same premise as its founders did 75 years ago: with a willingness to adapt to the changing needs and demands of the customer, the industry and the times.
